Remember when everyone used to say 'just get it hot' for punties?

I swear, for a solid three years around 2010, that was the only advice you'd hear in shops from Seattle to Austin... It's not just about heat, it's about the right heat at the right spot. I see new folks now still grabbing a punty from a way too hot spot and wondering why their piece wobbles or sticks forever. You need that sweet spot about 2 inches back from the tip, where it's just sticky enough. It makes the transfer so much cleaner. Anyone else notice this specific bit of old advice causing new problems?

Wasn't there a whole thread on TalkGlass about this? Some old school guy broke it down. Said grabbing from the glory hole itself is a mess. You want that heat a few inches back, where the glass just starts to give. Makes the punty release way easier. Changed how I do transfers.

Old school guy" stuff always sounds so serious. Is the difference really that big?

Ngl, that old school advice is a game changer. I used to just grab the hottest part and fight my punty off the pipe every time. Moving my block back a couple inches, where the glass is just starting to get soft, made transfers way cleaner. It’s the difference between a smooth handoff and wrestling a melted candy bar.
