Left a perfect sand dollar in the tide pool yesterday and still feel weird about it
Was walking the beach up north and found this flawless, huge sand dollar just sitting in a shallow pool. My first thought was to take it home, it was so pretty. But then I remembered they're living things, or at least were, and taking it felt wrong even if it was empty. Now I'm stuck thinking about where that line is for collecting beach stuff.

Felt the same way when I took a conch shell from a tide pool last summer. Honestly, I still have it on my desk and it gives me low-key guilt every time I see it. Tbh, my beach bag is probably half stolen ecosystem at this point. Ngl, I draw the line at hermit crabs though, those guys are off limits. It's like a moral puzzle every time I walk on the sand.

@blair_taylor, but empty shells are just nature's leftovers... no harm in keeping them.

Yeah, that feeling is totally real. I left a really cool piece of sea glass once for the same reason (it just felt like it belonged there, you know?). The line is so fuzzy, like with rocks or even just pretty seaweed.
