My habit of buying apps on impulse was killing my budget

I used to download and buy mobile apps whenever I saw a cool one. It was just a few dollars here and there, but it added up fast. Last year, I made a rule to wait 24 hours before any app purchase. My app spending went from $50 a month to almost zero. I moved that money to my emergency fund instead. It feels good to have control over such a small thing.

Yeah, that 24-hour trick is solid. I had a similar rush with food delivery apps, just tapping order when I didn't want to cook. Ended up removing them from my phone for a while, and now I plan meals ahead. Funny how a small change can fix two problems at once, saving cash and cutting calories. What kind of apps usually tempt you the most?

I get what you mean about removing apps, but for me that never sticks. The temptation isn't really the app itself, it's the feeling I'm trying to fix, like boredom or stress. So I'll just download it again, or find another one. Shopping apps and dumb mobile games are my weakness, they're just too easy to click on when I'm avoiding something else. Deleting them feels like I'm just treating the symptom, not the cause, you know?

Turning off all app notifications for a week showed me how much they pull me in, which ties back to what @allen.piper said about fixing the feeling. Now I only check social media on my laptop, which cuts the mindless taps.
