My buddy's fan theory about time travel loopholes ruined game night...

We were playing that new board game set in the Cygnus Reach universe, and my friend Jake dropped this wild idea about how the time dilation rules could be hacked. He went into detail, using napkins to draw diagrams, and it totally killed the vibe. Half the table thought it was cool and made the game deeper, but the other half just wanted to play without a physics lesson. I was stuck in the middle, trying to keep peace while snacks went cold. It got so awkward when Sarah said his theory broke canon from the books, and Jake fired back about author intent. Now we're divided on whether to let deep lore debates happen when we play or keep it light. What do you guys think? Should fan theories be part of game night or saved for after?

Feel the pain on this one. Game nights should be fun, not feel like homework. I love deep talk too, but maybe save the napkin diagrams for after you finish playing. The rules are there for a reason, right? Makes it fair for everyone so you can just enjoy the game.

How do you handle when someone's deep dive into lore clashes with the game's pace? In your situation, could you have set a timer for theory talk before returning to play? I've seen groups fall apart over rules lawyering, so finding a middle ground seems key. Maybe establishing a 'lore break' rule upfront could prevent cold snacks and heated arguments.

Let lore breathe during the game, it's half the fun. Idk maybe timers just make people rush the good parts.
