Showerthought: My smart thermostat froze me out last winter, but now it's sorted

I programmed my smart thermostat wrong and it set the heat way too low while I was away. Came back to a cold house and a huge heating bill. Fixed it by setting up geofencing so it only adjusts when I'm actually gone. How do you handle vacation modes for your smart devices?

Honestly, my own dumb setup tried to 'save' me money by turning the heat down while I was still home. I guess it thought I was a ghost because I was sitting still watching a movie. Wound up wearing a winter coat on my couch like some kind of indoor camper. I finally just set a simple schedule with a manual vacation override, no more fancy learning stuff.
