My firefighter experience vs. the 'day in the life' trend

My shifts are nothing like those perfect posts, so what makes this trend spread so quickly?

Seriously though, I read an article about how our brains are wired for tidy stories with clear heroes and endings. A messy twelve hour shift with paperwork and downtime just doesn't fit that mold. People sharing those perfect "day in the life" clips are basically giving folks a simple movie plot. It's easier to swallow and way more fun to share than the boring or hard truth. The apps also push that pretty, packaged content because it gets more clicks and shares than reality.

Used to roll my eyes at those until I realized people just want a neat little story, not the chaotic reality.

Isn't it funny how we crave those simple stories? I used to dismiss all those polished 'day in my life' videos as totally fake. Then I caught myself skipping over a friend's long, rambling post about their actual stressful day to watch a short clip of someone making avocado toast perfectly. It hit me that the messy truth is just too much work to digest sometimes. We'd rather see the pretty, thirty-second version where everything has a clear point and a happy ending.
