Just heard a tailor say 'fit over fabric' and it stuck with me

Put that extra $40 in the "tailor fund" column from the start, @miles72. It's almost always cheaper to buy something decent secondhand and pay a pro to tweak it than to buy something brand new that might fall apart in a year. I've learned that lesson a few times myself, once with a pair of trousers that I swore fit perfectly until I saw a photo and realized the crotch was hanging like a hammock. A $25 hem and a $15 waist adjustment turned them into my favorite pants. People really sleep on how cheap basic alterations can be, especially for shoulders and lengths. The real steal is knowing what to look for and budgeting for the fix ahead of time, not just the sale price.

Had to pick between Mansions of Madness or Betrayal at House on the Hill for game night last Friday

Ugh, that's the worst! @nancy475 beat me to it but yeah, getting eliminated that quick is basically a guaranteed way to kill the fun for that person. I've had the same thing happen with a haunt that just locked one player out of doing anything useful for the rest of the game. Honestly, Betrayal is great when the stars align but it's got way too much random chance for my taste. That's why I usually lean toward Mansions of Madness even with the setup time. At least everyone stays in the game the whole time and has stuff to do even if they're losing.

Blew out a 4 inch slab in Phoenix last Tuesday

Ended up with that weird concrete soup situation, huh... guess the gravel just wanted to be part of the mud pie!

TIL that old timer's advice about wrapping brisket in foil was dead wrong for my smoker

@cooper.phoenix nailed it. That old foil advice is like a curse passed down from pitmaster to pitmaster without anyone stopping to think. I made the same mistake for months because some guy named Earl at a competition swore by it. Butcher paper is the real deal for offsets, lets the bark set while still pushing through the stall. Foil basically steams the meat, which works fine if you're after a pot roast texture but not a proper brisket. Honestly the only thing that matters is testing things yourself instead of taking someone's word as law, because every smoker and every piece of meat is different.

Old foreman swore by running the cutterhead at half speed in mud. He was dead wrong.

Oh man, that reminds me of my uncle who insisted on greasing the track pins every single shift no matter what. He'd chew me out for skipping a day, but the manual said every 50 hours. I followed his way for a month and went through a whole bucket of grease, no real difference in pin wear. Some old timers just dig their heels in on stuff that used to work but doesn't hold up anymore, you know?
