My neighbor told me my yard was a fire hazard, and he was right.
He came over last Tuesday after the wind died down. Pointed at the tumbleweeds piled against my back fence, said 'You know, with how dry it's been, that's just asking for trouble.' I'd always just seen them as a nuisance to clear out eventually. But he explained how one spark from the railroad tracks or even a cigarette butt could send it up, and it could jump to the house. I spent all Saturday morning clearing out two full truckloads of that stuff. Now I'm on a schedule to check it every other week. Anyone else have a regular routine for keeping their property safe during these dry spells?

I mean, my uncle had a similar thing happen with pine needles under his deck. Idk, you just don't think about it until someone points it out. He got one of those leaf blowers just for that spot now. Maybe it's just me but it feels like the fire season stuff gets worse every year.

Yeah, the pine needles under the deck thing is a good point... it's all the hidden spots you forget. I started hosing down my wood mulch beds every few days when it's this dry. That stuff can hold an ember for days without you even seeing it smoke.
