Rant: my sprinkler timer died right in the middle of July

I was out in the yard last Tuesday checking why my grass was turning brown and found the control box full of ants. Had to run to Lowe's and drop $80 on a new one, then spent two hours in the sun trying to wire it up. Anyone else have pests mess with their irrigation stuff around here?

Man, that's rough. I had the same thing happen two years ago with my controller, except mine was full of those little grease ants. Had to spend a good hour just cleaning out the old box before I could even think about wiring the new one. Those little bugs seem to love the warmth of those boxes in the summer heat.

You mentioned the grease ants. That took me back. I had a similar problem but with those tiny little sugar ants. They got into my thermostat housing one summer and it was a mess. I felt like a fool trying to pick them out of the little crevices with a toothpick. My wife walked in and just shook her head at me. She said I looked like I was performing surgery on a plastic box. I guess that's just the kind of excitement you get when you own an older home.
