Unpopular opinion: the old guy at the War Zone on Central told me to skip the meta and just play what I like
About 8 months ago I walked into War Zone on Central and asked the owner what deck I should run for a local tournament. He looked at me for a second, said "play the deck you know, not the deck that wins," and went back to sorting singles. I ignored him, netdecked the top list, and went 0-3 at the Saturday event at the shop on Juan Tabo. Next month I brought my janky mono red build I'd been running for two years and went 2-1. The numbers aren't huge, but I stopped second guessing myself after that. Turns out knowing your own deck beats copying a list you've never piloted. Anybody else get set straight by a shop owner here in town?
