My screenshot of a broken dishwasher got 2 million views on Twitter last year and I still can't process it.
I just took a pic of the weird noise it was making to send to my landlord, and somehow it ended up on the front page of Reddit and then all over the news sites. Now every time I meet someone new they ask if I'm "the dishwasher lady" and I don't know how to handle it lol, has anyone else had a random post totally rewire your social life?

Riley, you know what, I used to think the same way. I'd see someone go viral for something random and just assume it was some lucky break or algorithm trick, not something that actually changes how people treat you in real life. But hearing how a dishwasher photo basically rewrote your social life, yeah, that puts it in a different light. I've never had a post blow up like that myself, but I had a comment on a local news site get shared around once and for like two months people at my gym would bring it up. It really does stick to you like gum on a shoe, as you said. That kind of accidental fame has gotta be so weird to navigate, especially when it's something as boring as a dishwasher.

Have you tried making a joke about it right away when someone brings it up? Like "yeah that's me, the dishwasher whisperer" or something dumb like that. I had a similar thing happen with a photo of my cat sitting in a sink and for a while I just said "yep that's my claim to fame" and moved the conversation along. People usually drop it after you acknowledge it once. If they keep pushing just say you don't really talk about it anymore and change the subject. The attention fades eventually, it just takes longer than you'd think.

Huh, you know I used to roll my eyes at people getting famous from dumb stuff online. Figured it was just luck or bots or whatever. But hearing how a dishwasher photo basically rewrote your social life, that actually makes a lot of sense. It's not about the dishwasher, it's about how one random thing can just stick to you like gum on a shoe. I get it now, that kind of accidental fame has gotta be weird to navigate.
