Wasted $180 on a fancy level that wasn't worth it

I bought one of those digital smart levels with the laser guide built in about 6 months ago. Thought it would save me time on foundation blocks and retaining walls. First week it worked fine, then the display started glitching in direct sunlight. Couldn't even see the numbers half the time. Then the laser drifted off by about a quarter inch over 6 feet, which threw off a whole corner of a raised garden bed I was building. Ended up ripping it out and doing it over with my old 4 foot spirit level. The digital one is sitting in my truck cab now. Has anyone else had bad luck with electronic levels on actual masonry? Stick with the old bubble levels?

I used to just laugh off anyone who brought up the moon landing being faked... figured it was too big to pull off. But then I watched that old movie 'Capricorn One' from 1978 and it got me thinking about how Hollywood had the tech back then to fake stuff. Still, the sheer number of people who'd have to keep quiet seems impossible to me. On one hand, the telemetry data and rock samples seem solid. On the other hand, why did they lose the original tapes? What do you guys think, is there any real evidence that holds up beyond the surface level?

Paying for a storage unit for 6 months before I even moved here was such a waste

I put $1,200 into a storage unit in the suburbs back in January thinking I'd move into my apartment by March. Well my lease fell through, then I had to stay with my cousin in Ohio for 3 extra months while I sorted things out. All that money just to keep a couch and some boxes I could have sold and rebought here. Anyone else pay for stuff way too early before actually getting to Chicago?

My mentor swore by wetting bricks before laying them, I think he was wrong

An old mason I worked with in Denver 2 years ago insisted on soaking every brick in a bucket before laying it. He said it kept the mortar from drying too fast and cracking. I followed his advice for about 3 months and kept getting bricks that slid around and mortar that was too loose. Once I stopped wetting them and just adjusted my mix a bit, my rows stayed straight and I cut my labor time by almost half. Has anyone else found that old trick doesn't hold up in drier climates?

Buddy from Fort McMurray told me to use spray foam in my rim joist

He swore by that Great Stuff stuff for sealing up the basement rim joists. Did the whole job last fall and now I'm worried I trapped moisture in there. Anyone else deal with mold after using spray foam down there?
