TIL that paying $40 for a tripod changed my mind about the whole 'gear doesn't matter' thing after my clip blew up
So back in March I filmed my dog doing this dumb little dance in my kitchen in Reno and posted it from my phone propped on a stack of books. It hit 2.1 million views somehow, and then a brand emailed me wanting to pay me actual money for more videos. The problem was every follow up clip looked like garbage because my phone kept sliding off the books. I complained to my buddy Marcus and he said just buy a $40 tripod, so I did, and it saved the whole thing because I could lock the angle and stop fiddling. Before that I was one of those people who swears gear is a scam and the content is all that matters. Now I think that's half true, because the content got me found but the tripod is what let me actually keep the money coming in instead of tanking after one post. I'm still cheap about everything else though, my lighting is literally a desk lamp from a thrift store for $6. Has anyone else had a tiny cheap purchase basically rescue their accidental fame moment, or did you blow a bunch of cash on stuff that didn't help at all?
