That 2019 Peloton ad getting pulled still bugs me more than it should
I was cleaning out an old drive in my garage in Boise this past weekend and found a folder of banned ads I saved back in college, which got me thinking about how the whole thing has changed. Back then a commercial would get yanked and it felt like a big deal, you'd read one article about it and that was that. Now I pull up YouTube and there's 40 reaction videos within a day, plus people ranking the apology posts. The Peloton one from 2019 is the one that sticks with me, that actress got piled on for a role she just acted out on a soundstage in New York. It got pulled, the stock dipped something like 15 percent, and the company put out two statements in less than a week. We used to just change the channel, now we write essays about a 30 second spot. Does anyone keep an actual list of these, or am I the only one with a folder full of downloads?
Ever notice how we do this with everything now, not just ads? A bad tweet, a weird outfit, some random moment from years ago. Nothing just fades out anymore, it all gets dug up and picked apart forever. And honestly, yeah, you're not the only one with a folder like that.
