Rant: brand accounts keep using that fake 'we messed up' apology format and it flops every time
I keep a folder of brand apology posts and 14 of them from this spring all follow the exact same script: lowercase font, a blurry screenshot, and a line like 'we hear you.' One burger chain did it on a Tuesday and got 60,000 quote tweets dragging them because the apology was about a coupon error, not anything real. The reason it flops is simple, people can smell a template from a mile away, and the comments just turn into people posting the same format back at them as a joke. If your brand has nothing to actually say sorry for, why fake the drama? What's the worst copycat apology post you've seen this year?
Did you see the one from that mattress company back in March? They posted the whole lowercase thing over a shipping delay of like two days and people lost it. The comments were just hundreds of folks copying the exact format word for word but swapping in stuff like "we hear you, your bed is late." The kicker was they left the comments on so the whole thing turned into a roast thread. Then they posted a second apology about the first apology. You cannot make this stuff up.
