That time a craft store posted a tone-deaf apology for selling out of yarn during a storm

Actually that restock post was during the Bahamas hurricane, not Florida. But you're right that the apology basically just blamed people for getting upset instead of admitting they dropped the ball. Having supplies stuck in warehouses while folks are boarding up windows just looks bad no matter how you spin it.

I still think about that extra from the LOTR appendices who talked about the horse training

Is it weird how the smallest behind-the-scenes moments stick with us longer than the big action scenes?

The time I finally stopped greasing every single bolt on a bike

Also you're assuming everyone torques their bolts to factory spec every time which is just not realistic. A lot of people go by feel and grease can make it way too easy to over-tighten and snap something, especially with smaller bolts. If you're greasing seatpost binder bolts you're basically asking for a cracked frame or stripped threads when someone who doesn't know what they're doing grabs a torque wrench.

TIL picking the right toner for oily skin makes a huge difference - tried witch hazel vs salicylic acid

Witch hazel can be pretty harsh... salicylic acid is way more targeted.

Picked up a trick from a line cook in Savannah that still makes my prep faster

Have you tried using a smaller knife for stuff like garlic and shallots too? I found that switch really helped my precision more than I expected. What brand of knife do you use for your prep work?
