Found out 9 of the 12 car ads I saved from 2004 use the same fake salesman name
I was cleaning out an old hard drive and found a folder of car commercials I saved off TV back in 2004. Out of 12 ads, 9 of them had a salesman named "Chuck" who was supposedly the owner's son, which even as a kid I thought was odd. I looked up one of the dealerships and it closed in 2011, and the "Chuck" in the ad was just a local actor hired for $200 a shoot. Made me wonder how many of these guys were real and how many were a guy in a bad suit reading a script. Anyone else save old ads and notice stuff like this later?
My buddy actually worked at a dealership back in the day and he told me the whole "owner's son" thing was a total bit. They'd hire some local guy to play the role because people trust a family business more than a regular sales floor. He said the same actor would show up at like three different lots in the same town playing different sons, sometimes with a fake mustache. The funniest part was the guy wasn't even a good actor, he just had that loud car commercial voice. Makes you wonder how many "family owned since 1972" signs are actually true.
