My barber in Cleveland convinced me the cringe local mattress ad is better than any Super Bowl spot
I was getting a cut at a place on West 25th in Cleveland and my barber would not stop talking about that local mattress ad where the owner yells about prices for 45 seconds straight. He argued these low budget spots actually stick in your head way more than the polished $7 million Super Bowl ads, and honestly I pushed back hard at first. But he had a point I can not shake, because 3 days later I could still hear that guy shouting "NOBODY BEATS OUR PRICES" while I could not remember a single thing about the last big game commercial. I think we overrate the fancy stuff and flat out ignore how these messy local ads burrow into your brain for free. The whole reason we post about them here is that they work, even when we are laughing at them. Is anyone else actually starting to respect these cringe local spots more than the big budget ones?
There is a mattress place near me that runs the same grainy ad from like 2009 and I can still do the whole jingle word for word, meanwhile I could not tell you one Super Bowl commercial from the past five years. Big brands spend all that money trying to be clever and it just slides right off, but some guy screaming about prices in a warehouse sticks because it feels like a real person and not a focus group. So yeah, your barber is onto something, the messy ones win because they never tried to be cool in the first place.
