Serious question, did the Budweiser frogs or the Bud Bowl ads actually make you buy beer?
I got into a long talk with my brother in law over the holidays about which 90s beer campaign actually worked, and we split hard on it. He swears the Bud Bowl stuff with the bottles playing football was the one that made him notice Budweiser, but for me it was always the three frogs croaking "Bud," "Weis," "Er" one at a time, and I can still hear it clear as day 25 plus years later. Here is the thing that bugs me though, I remember every single frog ad word for word and I have never once bought a Budweiser in my life, so what was the point? The Bud Bowl at least tied the ad to the product and the Super Bowl, so when you walked into a store in January the bottles were right there staring at you. The frogs were catchy as hell but they were just a sound, no product, no reason to pick it over anything else on the shelf. I keep wonder if catchy and effective got mixed up in my head, cause my memory of the frogs is way stronger but I bet the football bottles actually moved more cases. Did any of these campaigns ever get you to grab a six pack you would not have grabbed otherwise, or are we all just walking around with jingles stuck in our heads for stuff we never bought?
