I thought the old guy at the garage sale in Reno was full of it about a 1983 He-Man figure, and I still feel dumb
Last month I hit a garage sale off Wells Avenue in Reno and this older guy had a beat up He-Man on his table for 6 bucks. I almost walked right past it because the paint on the chest was worn and I figured it was just some junk toy from the 80s like all the ones I see at every sale. He told me to flip it over and check the back stamp, so I did, and the date said 1981 with a small Malaysia mark I had never noticed on mine as a kid. I told him I thought the first run had a different arm mold, and we stood there talking for maybe 20 minutes while he pulled out a box of about 30 other figures and showed me the little differences. I went home and dug out my old bin from my parents' place in Sparks and sure enough, two of mine matched what he was saying. I never thought I would care this much about plastic joints and stamp dates, but here I am at 41 reading about toy molds on my lunch break. Has anyone else had a random person at a sale teach them something about their childhood toys that totally changed how you look at your old collection?
