Shoutout to the AI noise cleanup that saved 40 hours of my grandma's tape recordings
Six months ago I started digitizing my grandma's cassette tapes from the 70s, and about 30 of them were so full of hiss and hum that I could barely make out her voice. I tried a free denoiser that made everyone sound like they were underwater, so I gave up for a while. Last week I ran the same files through one of the newer speech cleanup models and the difference is honestly a little creepy, the room noise just vanishes and her voice comes through clean. It took maybe 20 minutes to process all 30 tapes, which would have been weeks of manual editing. Anyone else using these tools for old family recordings, and how do you keep it from scrubbing out quiet words at the ends of sentences?
That's honestly a little creepy" made me laugh cause yeah, that's exactly how it feels when the hiss just disappears. I saw a video where a guy said you can fix the clipped quiet words by lowering the noise setting a notch and running it twice, softer the second time.
