Update: My daughter's science fair bot asked the judge a question and the whole gym went quiet
So my 12 year old built this little chat bot for her school science fair in Mesa last Thursday because she wanted to show how AI can help kids study for tests. The thing worked fine for two days, answering quiz questions about the solar system and even cracking a few jokes. Then during judging, this retired NASA guy leans in and asks it something about orbital decay, and the bot just fires back a follow up question about which planet he meant and why he was curious. The judge actually laughed and said nobody had asked him a question back all morning, and they talked for like 5 minutes. She got second place but three parents came up to me afterward asking which app she used, and I had to admit I have no idea, she built the thing herself from some free tutorial site. Now she wants a subscription to a bigger model and I am standing here in my kitchen wondering if I just started a monthly bill I can never cancel. Has anyone else had a kid go from zero to building this stuff in a weekend?
