Burned a $25 chuck roast trying that '5 minutes at 400' tip from TikTok

I saw this video where a guy claimed you could cook a whole chuck roast in the air fryer in 25 minutes. Seemed too good to be true but I tried it anyway with a roast I bought from Kroger for $25. Set it to 400 degrees for 5 minutes per side like he said. After 20 minutes total the outside looked like charcoal and the inside was still raw and cold. Had to toss the whole thing because the smoke was so bad it set off my apartment's fire alarm. My landlord is going to bill me for the fire department visit too. Anyone else have a shortcut recipe that ended up costing way more than it saved?

Honestly, did you check the thickness of your roast before you started cooking? That 5-minute per side trick only works on something thin like a steak or a pork chop, not a big thick chuck roast. A roast that size needs maybe 45 minutes to an hour at a lower temp like 325 to cook through without burning the outside. You basically seared the outside on high heat and left the middle frozen, that's what happened. Tbh that TikTok tip was probably for a roast that was cut into smaller pieces or something. Ngl you might have better luck just searing it in a pan and then finishing it low and slow in the oven or a slow cooker next time.

My buddy Mike tried that same trick and ended up with a hockey puck on the outside and raw meat inside just like you, @sam_murphy39.
