Tried frozen chicken wings from two different brands back to back...

Cooked a bag of Foster Farms wings at 380 for 25 minutes and they were just... okay. Then I tried the Kirkland brand from Costco and they came out way crispier with the exact same time and temp. Maybe it's the extra fat or something but I'm never going back. Has anyone else noticed a big difference between store brands?

Frozen chicken wings, it's not that deep. You baked two bags of wings and one was slightly crispier. Big deal. Maybe the Kirkland ones had more surface area or a different freezing process, but your "never going back" declaration is a bit much. Next week you'll try a new brand and have a whole new favorite. Save the dramatic loyalty for something that actually matters like a sports team or your coffee order.

Funny you mention that because I actually watched a video where a food science guy broke down why Kirkland frozen wings are different. He said they flash freeze them individually so there's less ice crystal buildup, which means they don't steam as much in the oven. That extra moisture escaping from cheaper brands kills the crisp factor. Foster Farms apparently uses a different freezing method that lets more water get trapped in the meat. Makes total sense when you think about it because the Kirkland ones I got were each separated in the bag instead of one giant ice block. So it's not just fat content, it's literally how they freeze the damn things. Little details like that really do add up when you're cooking from frozen.
