Am I the only one who thinks wing walk inspections are overkill on a 3 day turnaround?
Had a 737 come in Monday for a heavy check. Lead wanted every square inch of the wing walk walked and tapped. Took my guy 6 hours just on that. We found one small soft spot, fixed it in 40 minutes. Then the plane sat an extra day waiting on a part that had nothing to do with it.
I get it, safety first. But when we're getting squeezed on turn times and the airline is breathing down our necks, spending a whole shift on something that almost never turns up anything feels like a bad trade. Had a chief tell me once 'you don't skip checks, you just get faster at them.' Fair. But there's a difference between fast and pointless.
Anyway, we got it out Thursday night finally. Ramp said the crew was cool about the delay so whatever.
Curious what you all do. Do you scope the whole thing every time or just the high traffic zones?
