Had a 20 year A&P tell me I was torquing bolts wrong yesterday
Guy named Dave from Continental who's been doing this since the 80s watched me torque a cylinder base nut. Said I was going too slow and that the torque spec is for when the bolt is already warm from fast turning. Said I been undertorquing everything for years by taking my time. Anyone else ever get told this?

Laughed out loud at this. So Dave's been doing the "fast and furious" torque method since before I was born. Guess I gotta throw out my whole torque wrench and start revving the engine while I tighten nuts now.

Wait is Dave actually out there revving his engine while torquing bolts?

Dude I have definitely done this before. Maybe not with the full on Fast and Furious revving but I've absolutely sat there giving it a little gas while snugging things down thinking it would somehow help the threads line up better. My torque wrench is probably rolling its eyes at me from the toolbox. Then I realized I was just making extra noise and wasting gas for zero reason. At least Dave's method is consistent with his whole vibe I guess.
