Working the ramp in Phoenix during that 2017 heat wave changed how I handle sealants

We had a tube of PRC sealant cook off in the sun before we could even open it. The ambient temp was 122, and the tarmac was way hotter. Now I keep a small cooler in my kit just for sealants and adhesives when I'm on a hot ramp. Anyone else have to change their summer routine after something like that?

I always thought keeping sealants in the toolbox was fine until I saw a tube of Pro-Seal split open in Tucson last August. The goo inside had basically turned into soup. Now I stash that stuff in my lunch cooler with an ice pack if I know I'm working outside all day.

My uncle's a mechanic in Phoenix and he told me they had a whole case of silicone sealant go bad in their shop last summer. The labels said it was fine up to 120 degrees, but their storage shed hit 135. @gavin_hill27, your cooler trick sounds smart for those really brutal days.

That's just extra gear to haul around. A good sealant should handle the heat if it's stored right in the first place.
