Ran cat6 for a camera on a 60 foot run and got nothing, what did I miss
Hooked up a new 4mp dome camera out at a job in Mesa last Thursday and could not get a picture no matter what I did. The run was right at 60 feet of cat6 from the NVR to the box on the corner of the house, well under the 328 foot limit, so I figured it was plug and play. I crimped both ends fresh, tested with a cheap continuity tester and all 8 pins lit up in order, but the NVR kept showing no link. Swapped the camera with one off my truck and it fired right up, so I spent an hour chasing a bad crimp that turned out to be a bad camera out of the box. What gets me is I skipped the cable certifier because I was in a hurry, and a simple re-termination on the suspect camera's pigtail is what actually fixed it. Has anyone else had a brand new camera just not negotiate PoE until you cut and redid the factory connector?
