My cousin said our anime arguments are just us talking about talking about shows

We were debating the best 'villain redemption arc' for like an hour, and he pointed out we never actually talked about the shows, just what other people online said about them. It made me realize how much of our 'discussion' is just repeating forum takes. Does anyone else feel like they're stuck in a loop of meta-commentary instead of just sharing their own gut reaction?

Remember getting into a huge fight about a movie's pacing once. Realized halfway through we were both just quoting the same YouTube review. Feels like we're all just playing telephone with other people's opinions now.

I started a rewatch group where we can't read any reviews until after we talk. It forced us to actually say what we felt first.
