So I teach 8th grade and one of my students saw a Demon Slayer keychain on my lanyard and asked what else I watch. I told him I gave up on a certain popular shonen around episode 3 because the pacing felt slow, and he looked at me like I'd insulted his family. He said the first 3 episodes are basically a trailer and the real story doesn't start until like episode 15, which honestly sounds like a lot to ask of someone. But then I thought about my own habits, because I stuck with Frieren for almost 6 episodes before it clicked for me, and now it's one of my favorites. On the other side, I've been burned before, like I pushed through 20 something episodes of a show I won't name and it never got better, just louder. So now I'm stuck wondering where the line is between being patient and wasting my own time. Do you give a show a set number of episodes no matter what, or do you trust your gut at episode 3 and move on?
