Vent: that YouTuber's 'skip the manga' advice cost me 14 episodes of filler
Big anime channel named OtakuSensei kept saying skip the manga for One Piece because the anime pacing was fine. I trusted that and banged through the Dressrosa arc, only to find out half of it was stretched scenes and recaps. Turns out he was paid by the streaming site to push the anime version. I wasted 3 weeks on episodes that were just reaction shots and flashbacks, and now I'm going back to read the manga from chapter 700. Anyone else get burned by a popular creator's bad takes on source material?

Gotta call this out first, OtakuSensei has never been paid by a streaming site, at least not for One Piece. He did a whole video last year showing his patreon and sponsor deals, and it was all game ads and VPN stuff. That said, his pacing takes are still trash. Dressrosa in the anime is a slog, no question, but he's just one of those guys who thinks the anime is the "definitive version" because it's what got him into the series. You're not wrong to be mad, just wrong about the bribe part. Still, sorry you had to sit through all those reaction shots, that arc was brutal.
