PSA: Stop replacing control boards right away on Samsung fridges

I kept seeing everyone say to swap the main board on Samsung RF models when the fridge side stops cooling. Tried it on 3 units last month and wasted about $450 before I realized the issue was the evaporator fan connector getting loose. That little clip pops off after a few defrost cycles. Now I check that first and it saves me an hour of troubleshooting. Anyone else find a common fix that goes against the usual advice around here?

Yeah that loose evaporator fan connector is a killer, I've seen it on at least a dozen RF models over the years. Always check the wiring harness behind the rear cover before you even touch the board, sometimes the pins get corroded too if there's any moisture. Saved me a ton of headache and customer callbacks once I started doing that first.

Exactly. I had a 2017 RF260B last month that was driving me CRAZY until I remembered that exact same harness issue. The connector behind the rear cover was barely hanging on, one of the pins was almost completely backed out of the plastic housing. I just reseated it with a small pick and it fired right up. What gets me is how OFTEN the corrosion happens too, especially on units near a sink or in a humid basement. I started keeping a tiny tube of dielectric grease in my bag just for those pins now. Saves me a return trip every time.
