Wasted $450 on a used compressor that was DOA, my mistake

Picked up a 'tested working' compressor off Facebook Marketplace in Phoenix, got it home and it wouldn't even kick on. Should've checked the windings before handing over cash, has anyone else gotten burned buying used parts like this?

Maybe it's just me but buying used tools off Marketplace is always a gamble, and $450 for a compressor that's DOA sounds more like you paid for the brand name than a guarantee. I mean, anyone selling "tested working" gear for that price usually has a reason, and it's rarely a steal. Better to check the motor windings or ask for a demo video before you hand over cash next time.
