DAE drop $220 on a cheap mini split for the garage and have it actually work?

I finally put a $220 mini split in my garage last October because I got tired of sweating through every project. I figured at that price it would last one summer and die. It has been 9 months now and it still keeps the space at 68 degrees even when it was 104 outside in Phoenix. My neighbor told me I was wasting money and should just get a window unit for $150. The window unit he bought died in 6 weeks from the dust. So now I am wondering if I just got lucky or if these cheap units are actually fine for a garage. Has anyone else gone budget on a mini split and had it last more than a year?

I read that cheap mini splits often outlast window units because they don't suck in dust.
