This one weird trick fixed my basement musty smell problem

I tried those expensive dehumidifiers and plug-in air fresheners for like 6 months and nothing worked for that damp smell down there. Then my neighbor told me to just put a bowl of baking soda in each corner and swap it out every 2 weeks. Has anyone else tried something super simple like that for a weird home issue?

Totally changed my mind on this too. I used to think you had to go all high tech with ozone machines and fancy filters. Then a buddy of mine @emery_lopez told me the open bowl trick and I was skeptical but desperate. I just use cereal sized bowls uncovered, no lids at all. You don't stir it every day, just let it sit until it starts clumping up, then swap it out. Honestly the difference was night and day after doing it for a month. Sometimes the simplest stuff really does work better than all the expensive gadgets.

Got it @grace508, but is this really that serious? I did the open bowl thing for a week and barely noticed any difference in my room. Maybe my air is just already fine or something. I used a normal sized cereal bowl too like she said, just let it sit, no stirring. Felt like a waste of baking soda honestly.

Wait does the bowl have to be open or covered? I tried the baking soda thing but I think I messed up by putting lids on them with a few holes poked in. Also how big of a bowl are we talking here like a cereal bowl or more of a mixing bowl sized thing? And do you have to stir it up every few days or just let it sit there til you swap it?
