Always thought shellac was too soft for a table, but a job in Savannah proved me wrong.

Had to match a 1920s finish on a library table there. Used a 2-pound cut of dewaxed shellac with a pad, built up 8 thin coats. The client's cat knocked a heavy vase on it last month, and it just dented the wood underneath, the finish didn't flake or white. Learned that a thick, cured shellac film is way tougher than I gave it credit for. Anyone have a different topcoat that's surprisingly durable on old pieces?

Unpopular opinion: I thought the new fiber optic crimpers were just hype

Our shop got a set of the Klein Tools VDV226-110 kits last month, and I was sure they'd be finicky. After a week of splicing harnesses for a G500 retrofit, the consistency in my terminations was noticeably better. Has anyone else made the switch and seen a real difference in their insertion loss readings?

Question about cutting ad spend on a brand that's not yours

Three years ago, I was running ads for a small coffee shop in Portland. The owner wanted to stop all ads for a month to 'reset the algorithm', which I thought was a bad idea. I said the data showed our best customers came from those ads, and stopping would hurt sales. He did it anyway, and sales dropped 15% that month. But then, the next month when we turned ads back on, our cost per click was lower and we got more new people. So maybe he was right in a weird way. Has anyone else had a client insist on a break that actually worked out?

Spent two hours trying to delete a celebrity's accidental live stream from my phone

My friend sent me a clip of a famous singer going live by mistake while cooking. It was hilarious but huge, like 800 MB. My phone storage was full so I had to get rid of it. Tried deleting it normally, but it kept failing. Restarted my phone three times. Finally found out the file was corrupted and had to use a special app to force delete it. Anyone else have a viral fail clog up their device?

PSA: I was stuck on a character for months until I saw a kid at the Denver library

I've been trying to write this detective, Leo, for a novel, but he felt flat. At the library, I saw a kid explaining his favorite book character's 'weird walk' to his mom, acting it out. It hit me that I'd never physically imagined Leo moving through a space. I started writing him just walking across his messy office, and suddenly he had a limp from an old injury and a habit of touching doorframes. Has anyone else had a tiny observation completely unlock a stalled character?

I thought painting kitchen cabinets was a huge waste of time

For years I told myself I would just save up for new cabinets instead of painting the old ones. I figured it would look cheap or chip right away. Then my neighbor in Portland did hers last fall and they still look perfect. She used a specific primer called BIN and let each coat dry for a full day. I finally tried it in my own kitchen, spending about $120 on supplies. After three full days of work, the change is crazy. The room feels brand new and I saved thousands. Has anyone else had a project they avoided that turned out way better than they thought?

I always thought those 'first comment' people on YouTube were just trying too hard, but a guy in a live stream chat told me to check the timestamps on a viral clip from last month, and he was right, they're all bots.

Honestly, I looked at a video with 200k views that went up at 3 AM, and the top five 'first' comments were posted within 2 seconds of each other, which is just not possible for real people. Has anyone else found a comment section that was totally taken over like that?
