Capturing Mars with bargain bin gear was a letdown

I got a low-cost telescope for my birthday. Aimed it at Mars last week, excited for my first planetary shot. All I got was a fuzzy orange dot in every frame. My friend said it looks like a misplaced jellybean. Maybe I should stick to moon photos for now.

Honestly, used to believe any old scope could grab planet details if you tried hard enough. Your misplaced jellybean Mars is a REAL reality check. My buddy's similar bargain bin rig gave us just a fuzzy red pixel, no matter what we did. That experience completely shifted my view on what gear actually matters for planetary stuff. Now I save up for better optics instead of expecting magic from cheap glass. Those blurry dots teach you fast.

Tbh that jellybean phase is where you learn the most though. Good processing can sometimes pull detail out of those fuzzy dots before you upgrade gear.

Mars was just a fuzzy red pixel? That's harsh.
