Chose a 10 inch dob over a GoTo scope, zero regrets so far
I spent 3 months going back and forth between a 10 inch Dobsonian and a computerized 8 inch Schmidt-Cassegrain. Ended up picking the dob because I wanted to actually learn the sky, not just type coordinates into a hand controller. Three weeks in and I've already found M13, the Ring Nebula, and Saturn's Cassini Division on my own. Sure, I've spent maybe 6 hours total hunting down faint fuzzies that a GoTo would've locked onto in 60 seconds. But honestly, the thrill of star hopping from Vega to Epsilon Lyrae and seeing that double double split is worth every missed target. Anyone else deliberately pick a manual scope over tech and feel the same way, or do you think I'm just being stubborn about the hobby?.
