Debate: stacking vs single long shots for the Orion Nebula, my club in Dallas is split down the middle
Last Tuesday at our club meeting in Dallas, a guy named Ray showed 40 stacked 30 second frames of the Orion Nebula, and then the new member beside him showed one single 8 minute shot that honestly looked just as good to me. Ray says stacking is the only real way to beat light pollution and noise, but the other guy says a good mount and one clean long exposure keeps all the fine detail in the core. I've got a basic DSLR and a tracker, so I genuinely don't know which way to go with my next clear night. Has anyone here shot the same target both ways and can tell me which one held up better when you zoomed in?
