Guy at the star party in Tucson told me phone shots of the moon are cheating, now I can't stop thinking about it
Last Saturday I went to a free star party at the community college here in Tucson and a guy with a 10 inch Dobsonian saw me holding my phone up to the eyepiece and said "that's not astronomy, that's snapshot collecting." My first reaction was to get defensive (I mean, I still logged the shot, it turned out great). But the more I think about it, the more I wonder if he had a point about how much time we spend fiddling with cameras instead of actually looking up. On the other side, phone photos got my niece into this hobby and half the posts here are what keep new folks coming back. So where do you land, is snapping a pic through the eyepiece part of the hobby or stealing time from it?
