Heard the same story from a diesel guy here, and his take was that those additives stir up all the gunk that's been sitting harmless in the pan for years. Once it's floating around, it gets into the pump and bearings instead of staying put. So you might've been better off never touching it.

Man, this is the same thing that happened with everything, not just Twitter. Remember when a bad movie just came and went? Now every flop gets a thousand video essays and a whole campaign about why it ruined cinema. Same with eating at a chain restaurant or liking the wrong band. Somewhere along the way we all got handed a microphone and a scoreboard, and now every small thing has to be sorted into good or bad with a running tally.
