Heard a guy at the star party say he never edits his astrophotos, just posts the raw stack. Kinda blew my mind.

Oh man, that raw stack thing is wild. You HAVE to stretch the data, it's like 90% of the hobby. The camera just doesn't see it the way our eyes do.

Wait, what? I saw someone post a raw stack of the Orion Nebula once and it looked like a gray blob. How do you even see anything?

Yeah, it's all about the processing. The raw data is there but you gotta stretch it to see the colors and details. It's like developing a photo from a negative.
