I finally checked why M31 shots from my driveway never matched the ones online, and it's light pollution maps lying by omission
Cleardarksky listed my spot as Bortle 5, but when I pulled the actual 2015 Falchi map on the lightpollutionmap.info site, my neighborhood measured closer to Bortle 7, which explains why 4 hours of stacked subs on Andromeda came out as a gray smudge, so does anyone here cross check those two sources before driving an hour out of town?

Bortle ratings are subjective visual estimates, not measurements like the Falchi map's radiance data.
