My sourdough starter came back to life after 3 months in the back of the fridge

I forgot about my starter during a move last October and found it buried behind some pickles. Honestly I was just going to toss it but I fed it a 1:2:2 ratio of starter to flour to water on a whim. 4 days later it doubled in 6 hours and I made the best crusty loaf I've ever had. Has anyone else revived a starter that seemed totally dead?

My old book club fell apart after 8 years together

We had this group that met every third Tuesday since 2016... then it just broke up last month. It started when three members got into a huge fight about whether 'The Goldfinch' was actually good or just long. Then two people moved away within the same week, and nobody wanted to pick a new book. I tried to keep it going by suggesting we switch to short stories, but only one person showed up to the last meeting. It's weird how something that seemed solid can just fizzle out like that. Has anyone else had a group just stop working after years together?

Old vs new way of reading the bottom on the Mississippi

I used to rely almost completely on my depth finder and just go by the numbers. Then about 4 years ago I switched to running a towed sonar array behind the dredge and it changed everything. The old method was fine for basic depth but it missed all the subtle changes in the bottom type. Now I can see clay turning to sand before I even hit it, which saves me from chewing up a cutterhead. A guy up near Baton Rouge told me to try it after I burned through a set of teeth in one shift. Has anyone else made the switch and found the same thing or do you think the old way still works better for certain conditions?

PSA: A buddy told me to skip the torque wrench on lug nuts, blew a wheel off on the highway

My buddy Mike, who's been turning wrenches for 20 years, said I didn't need a torque wrench for passenger car lug nuts, just tighten 'em by feel. I did that on my 2015 Civic two months ago, and yesterday the rear driver's wheel came loose going 65 on I-35 near Austin. I caught it shaking before it fully came off, but I was a second away from a real crash. Anyone else had a close call because someone's old advice was total garbage?

Vent: That cheap $50 retargeting pixel I installed last week was tracking wrong data

Spent 3 days wondering why my conversions were tanking, then found the pixel was firing twice on every page load. Anyone else deal with budget tools giving you junk data that wastes your time?

Heard someone call AI art 'slop' at a coffee shop in Portland and it stuck with me

I was in Portland last weekend grabbing a latte and overheard two guys at the next table talking about a video game that used AI generated backgrounds. One said the whole game looked like 'slop' and the other laughed and agreed. I've been seeing that word pop up more on Twitter and Reddit to describe low effort AI content. It's interesting how a simple word like slop is becoming the go to term for anything rushed or cheap looking. Has anyone else noticed this catching on in their own circles?

Bought a fancy signal tracer and toner kit from that online supplier and it couldn't even find a live coax line in a new build. Anyone else had luck with a basic $30 model instead?

Found out that influencer who faked a kidnapping had a prior fraud conviction in 2019

I was digging through court records after the whole Amber-Leigh fake kidnapping story blew up last week and found out she already had a misdemeanor fraud conviction from three years ago in Phoenix. Nobody in the coverage mentioned it - they all just ran with the "mental health crisis" angle she pushed in her comeback video. How do these creators keep dodging their actual paper trails when a five minute search turns up this stuff?

I walked into a random co-working spot last week in Austin and they actually had a dedicated HR person helping members with salary negotiations and job offers, has anyone else seen something like that in a shared office space?

Had to pick between The Wire and The Sopranos for my next binge

Finished my last show on Friday and stared at my watchlist for an hour. Ended up going with The Wire because my coworker said it's the best TV ever made. Three episodes in and I'm already lost in the street politics and the way they write the cops. The Sopranos has been on my list for years too, so I'm wondering if I should've started there first. Has anyone else struggled with this choice or am I overthinking it?
