Am I the only one who switched from a DA to a block for a 3 inch scratch and regretted it?

Tried to save time on a door scratch by hand blocking it instead of grabbing the DA, and now I've got 2 hours of sanding swirls to fix before paint. Has anyone else talked themselves into the 'quick' way and paid for it later?
