I finally stopped buying those $40 paint chip repair kits

Spent about $120 over the last year on four different kits for a hood chip on my personal truck, all of them came out worse than a simple touch-up pen. Anyone else find that the spray can versions never match no matter how careful you are with the clear coat?

Four kits in a year on one hood chip? That's a lot of money on something you can barely see from six feet away at a gas station. I get that it bugs you, but at some point you're just chasing perfection on a daily driver that's gonna get another rock chip next month anyway. Touch-up pen and a beer, call it done. Clear coat matching is overrated when the alternative is staring at a slightly different shade of gray that only you notice.
