My home server got hit with a ransomware note after I skipped one update

Ever play Russian roulette and think "wow, this is fine so far"? That's your router plan. The scary updates are for the holes they already know about, so you're just betting no one finds your specific outdated box. Calling three days of recovery "bad luck" is like calling a house fire "unexpected warmth" because your smoke alarm was beeping for months.

A cheap tent almost ruined my trip to the Sawtooths last July

Sounds a bit dramatic for a little rain. Honestly, most cheap tents can handle a light shower if you set them up right. Maybe the fly wasn't on tight.

Found a stripped oil drain plug that was fixed with a helicoil kit from a parts store.

Man, that's a classic half-fix right there. Seen it a dozen times, a helicoil without sealant on an oil pan just buys you a little time. For something permanent, I'd probably step up to a solid insert like a Timesert.

My neighbor in Phoenix watched me struggle with a fence post for 20 minutes before saying anything.

That "wet it down first" advice is solid. My buddy in Tucson had the same issue with a gate post. He ended up using a sonotube form inside the hole before pouring the concrete. The cardboard tube kept the sand from mixing in and collapsing the whole thing while it set.

I finally understood the difference between a cheap grinder and a real one

Gotta push back a bit here. A lot of that perceived upgrade is probably just the placebo effect from using a new, fancy gadget. Sure, a consistent grind helps, but it's still just ground coffee. The water quality, brew time, and even your mood that morning play a bigger role than people admit. Spending hundreds to chase tasting notes on a bag seems like overkill for a daily habit. My old blade grinder makes a cup that's just fine for waking up.
