My paint guy in Tulsa told me to stop chasing every nib with 800 grit
He's been spraying for 22 years and says he knocks down the orange peel with 1000 wet, then lets the buffer do the rest instead of sanding forever. I tried it on a black Silverado bumper last Tuesday and cut my sanding time almost in half. Anyone else buff straight off 1000 or do you still step up to 1500 first?
Watched a YouTube video from a guy at a body shop in Texas who said the same thing, that 1000 grit is plenty if your buffing pads and compound are right. He made the point that most people sand too fine and then wonder why the cut takes forever. Seems like solid advice if you know what you're doing with the buffer.
