PSA: That $119 'paintless dent repair kit' from Amazon is a scam

Honestly, bought one of those suction cup and glue stick kits off Amazon for $119 to fix a door ding on a customer's Civic. Spent 2 hours on it, made the dent worse, and now the paint is cracked in two spots. I should have just charged them for a standard fill and respray from the get go. Has anyone else had luck with these kits or is it just me? I'm debating whether to tell the owner I need to repaint their door now.

Ninety percent of those kits rely on the glue pulling the metal back out but they don't tell you the paint is already stretched thin. Once that clearcoat cracks, you're sanding and blending anyway, so you just doubled your labor for nothing. I've seen guys on YouTube make it work but they're using professional tools, not that plastic claw thing with three suction cups. Your best move is to tell the owner straight up the dent was deeper than it looked and you need to cost out a proper repair, most people appreciate honesty over a hidden mess. And yeah, my rule now is if the ding is sharper than a quarter's edge, I don't even try the pop method.
