Tried a cheap Amazon respirator on a big paint job and ended up coughing for three days straight

I grabbed a $15 mask off Amazon for a full Mercedes respray last Friday and halfway through clearcoat I could taste the paint, so what do you guys actually trust for lung protection that won't break the bank?

Man, you could TASTE the clearcoat? That's terrifying honestly. I've done that before where you think you're good and then you get that metallic chemical taste in your mouth and you know you're screwed. Three days coughing sounds about right for that kind of exposure. Those cheap masks with the single strap are basically just for dust, not solvent fumes.

Respectfully, a good half mask with organic vapor cartridges changes everything.
